Will my Husband be Able to Send Money Home from Boot Camp

Concerned About Marine Boot Camp Money Transfer Process

by Boot Camps on February 15, 2012

Last week my husband left for boot camp, which was very hard for me.  Even though it was the right decision for our family, I am left at home to take care of our two children, which is no easy task.  But I know it will help support him in his efforts at boot camp.  Unfortunately, I am concerned about my financial situation and am hoping to get some information, advice, and personal suggestions.

I was under the impression that my husband would be sending me money during his time at boot camp.  I am a stay at home mom and I do not have any form of income apart from what my husband earns.  Apparently, it might take between six and nine weeks for me to receive the money he will be sending.  Waiting that long will mean living on an extremely tight budget in the interim.

I am hoping to get in touch with other folks who have experienced a similar situation.  I am more than a little confused about how the process of sending money works and why it will take so long for me to receive the funds.  I was expecting a delay, but waiting two months or even more is going to be very difficult for me and my children.

I realize that I may have misheard or misunderstood some of the details that the recruiter gave me about how the money gets sent.  If you have any experience with sending or receiving money from a family member at boot camp, can you please help me by giving me some details?

How were you able to manage while waiting to receive the funds?  Did they ever arrive sooner than you expected, like in four weeks instead of six?  Or did the opposite happen and you were left waiting ten weeks or longer to get your check?

Getting accustomed to this new situation is going to be difficult for me personally and for my kids, but I know we can manage.  Thanks in advance with your help regarding my question on sending money from boot camp.

Just have him set up a direct deposit of his paycheck into your checking account so he doesn’t have to send anything. That’s how he did and we were able to pay our bills that way.

I was able to have my paycheck direct deposited into our account so I didn’t have to send it while I was away at boot camp.
